Hi, i’m MEL WILLIAMS
I’ve been coaching and directing actors for over 40 years. My training began in 1967 at the Neighborhood Playhouse, where I trained under Sanford Meisner. I continued training actors and helped to bring the best out of them. My training focuses on keeping the actor working rather than talking about acting in the classroom. Focus has to be on developing the skill of the art!
My Approach
With my approach to training, you get to experience acting. As you are rehearsing, you are being coached in the process. That experience, the "practice" of acting is what helps you learn.
TRAINING
In our intensive training program, you will be immediately working in a play. You are put in a two-character play and as you are rehearsing the play, you learn how to create a character and sharing that character. You learn about timing and rhythm. And you even learn how to memorize lines the correct way, and many other essential acting skills. You do all of this while WORKING in a play. Acting is a skill and the only way to learn it and keep developing that skill is by doing it.
AUDITION COACHING
These same practical skills are applied preparing for an audition. Whether you are doing an in-person audition or submitting a self-tape, training is still essential to get you to bring out the best performance possible from that audition. I coach my actors through the entire process. Thankfully we offer self-tape submission services as well so you can be recording yourself tape, while also getting coaching, which can be highly beneficial for the actor. We offer that. My approach remains the same. Even when coaching a student to send it a tape.
PERFORMANCE
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
ADVANCED ACTING (SOLO-0PERFORMANCE)
Actors are encouraged to develop their writing skills. Our program will help students develop and perform their solo shows. These shows must be between 30-45 minutes in length.
